About Koru Holistic Counseling

Koru Holistic Counseling was created from the foundation that we as human beings are built from our experiences. Everything we are exposed to has an impact. Since we as humans are built from our experiences, in order to shift and grow we need to experience new moments and possibilities.

We believe the function of being healthy mentally is living from a place when our internal and external compositions  are balanced.  Our internal composition consists of our emotions, beliefs, existential experience, subconscious experience and higher consciousness. Our external compositions consists of our physical body, our environment, our sources of support and our sources of connection and belonging.

We utilize mind-body experiential approaches In order to provide inner support, process blocks, old patterns and embody new experiences.  We utilize information from the latest research on the mind and the body to craft our holistic approaches. We continue to hone our craft by participating in some of the most cutting edge trainings that work with the mind-body connection to support healing and mental health wellness.

We work to support growth and healing through experience.  Since we learn through experience we believe that it is paramount to create new sensory and cognitive experiences in order to generate new possibilities in life. We don’t just talk, we work  in from an experiential manner.  A manner that is interactive, explorative, self expressive, and imaginative.  Some approaches could include somatics (noticing sensations in your body), mindfulness, expressive art, movement, yoga, visualization, writing.

We recognize that body’s functioning influences overall wellness. The brain, the gut, the nervous system, all physical systems are interconnected and impact how we experience ourselves.  This is one of the primary components of holistic mental health. We will work with you to explore current functioning and needs and provide you with recommendations and referrals. We believe it is important to collaborate with a variety of wellness professionals to address different areas of need (acupuncturists, massage therapists, primary care doctors, nutritionists, chiropractors, functional medicine doctors, traditional healing practitioners, herbalists, etc.)

What do we mean when we say spirit: Higher self, Higher consciousness, divine within ones personal experience.
